Feeding dogs right start with knowing what you are actually feeding them. Many people assume that going to the store, picking up the closest bag of dried dog food, and putting the recommended amount in the dog bowl is good enough. This is about as furthest from the truth as one can get. Many of the dog food brands you find in the store are not adequate daily nutrition no matter how much you give your dog. They are full of substances that should not be ingested and are not even able to be digested by your dog. The Corn DealCorn and corn products are a popular and common part of commercial dog food. They are used as the primary ingredient in the majority of them. The reason is that corn is cheap; it fills your dog up, and keeps the cost of store bought food very low. The problem with corn fillers is that they off absolutely no nutritional value in your dog's food. All they do is act as fiber and fill your dog's belly to make him feel full. This can lead to your dog not getting enough protein, carbohydrate, fat, and other essential vitamins and minerals. Feeding dogs right mean offering them real carbs such as potatoes, rice, and pasta. If you must buy a commercial dog food you at least need to be sure that corn and corn products are not in the top ten ingredients and use a homemade supplement to make sure that your dog is getting what he or she needs. Where's The Beef? Dogs love meat. The will beg for any meat they smell or see in front of them. That is because not only does it smell and taste good, it is also essential for their health. A dog's daily diet needs to contain about 25% protein from a good source. Commercial dog foods do not offer this. Most of the meat products in their foods are by products that are not high in protein and barely digestible. Dogs need the same type of meat that humans eat for protein. This means feeding your dog some form of quality meat each day in either the form of a supplement made at home or your own natural dog food. When you are feeding dogs right they should be getting at least the daily requirement of fresh meat each day. Real Vegetables It is very common to see many vegetables listed on the ingredients of dog food. What you may not notice is the word extract after it. Not many dog foods you get in the store offer you a fresh or frozen source of vegetables. The do not have to as the amount of corn offer the fiber source you dog needs. Fiber is not the only thing that vegetables provide your pup. Feeding dogs right also includes giving essential vitamins and minerals obtained only from fresh or frozen vegetables. You need to be sure that your dog has these to stay healthy. You can read more Natural Dog Food related articles: Here
