The Problem With Manufactured Dog Food

Nowadays there is a rising concern in feeding manufactured dog food to our dogs. Reports of poor quality products to keep cost down and profit high are well known.

There are also instances where the dog food has been contaminated with pesticides.

Combine this with improper nutrition and added chemicals for freshness, and this is a recipe for disaster.

While the economy is trying to cut corners to save themselves and us money, this money will come out of our pocket one way or another. If you do not feed your dog well, he will require more frequent trips to the vet. Making your own dog food or supplement can aid you in avoiding rising cost and health problems in commercial dog foods.

The Veterinary Concern

Veterinarian costs are not cheap. A simple trip for a healthy dog to be checked over and get the shots required can cost deep in the purse. If you add in any health issues you could be spending more money than you ever imagined. When people are considering a new puppy, rarely do they think ahead to what is needed to keep him or her healthy.

Food is the main way we determine our dog's health. Most manufactured dog food is not enough for our dogs. They do not contain the essential daily allowance of dietary needs. They are full of chemicals that can cause more health issues over time as well. While many foods are of much higher quality than others, they still are not the best.

Cost Effectiveness

When people think of manufactured dog food, they think cost effective. Who wants to spend hundreds of dollars if they do not have to? There are many low cost brands of dog food on the market for thrifty spenders. The problem is that these are the same people complaining that their dogs are always sick and at the vet.

If you buy a higher quality dog food to get a slightly better diet, you are not being cost effective at all. The cost for the manufactures goes up, so does the retail cost. You end up paying more than if you made the dog food yourself. You are also not getting the best you can for your money. If you want to be cost effective, than it is best to make your dog's food or supplement at home.
Lack Of Quality Nutrients

The largest concern with manufactured dog food is the nutritional concern. Dogs have specific daily requirements. They can vary from breed to breed and with activity level, but remain fairly constant. Commercial foods do not offer dogs what they need in fresh, healthy nutrients. Some believe that it is because the food is dry and have heard that a wet food only diet is bad for dogs. The truth is that you can make a quality dry dog food that fulfils the daily nutrition requirements for dogs and wet food in the stores is no better or fresh than the dry food.
