Raw Dog Food
Raw Dog Food Advice
Raw dog food is what dogs were meant to eat before we started mass producing manufactured dried
kibbles. If you look around the world at countries where pet food is not on the shelves, dogs eat a well balanced
diet just like their human companions. This is cost effective and keeps dogs as the healthy animals they should
be.
The term raw can mean a few things depending on who you ask. Some people use the term to
describe the meat, while others use it to describe the vegetables. Dog food that is not completely cooked is good
for dogs as these things are not made for them in the wild.
The True Raw Meal
When you are making your own raw dog food you will want to be sure
that you are only buying the freshest ingredients. You do not want any manager’s special on meat that is due to
expire. Seek discounts on the meat of your choice at your local meat market or butcher instead. Meats that are used
raw should be as fresh as possible. When buying vegetables you will also want to buy fresh if possible.
Raw veggies contain the highest sources of nutrition and aid in digestion of the other
ingredients you use. All rice and pasta used as a source of carbohydrate of course must be cooked as the directions
suggest. Raw meats can be treated to make sure they are free of harmful bacteria. All raw food should be
refrigerated or frozen to keep it fresh.
The Other Raw Meal
If you are not too sure about safely feeding your dog raw meat or are not comfortable handling
it, you can use raw vegetables instead with cooked meat only. Some people choose to use tofu as they can serve it
raw and not have to worry about meat products at all. You will still need to keep the food stored well.
Refrigerate all the food that can be consumed in less than three days and freeze all the rest.
This ensures freshness. Raw dog food is very good for your dog, but some meats can be harmful when not cooked.
While our dogs were once wild, we have bred them to into living companions. They no longer have the stomach to
always handle raw meats. Some dogs do thrive on a true raw diet, but many more work better on this modified version
of it.
Choosing Between The Two
It can be very hard to decide which raw dog food to feed your pooch.
While some say that all raw, including meat can be dangerous, others will argue that our dogs have the right
enzymes to handle food of this kind. It really depends on your dog whether he can eat these foods without
complications. If your dog eats raw meat and gets diarrhea then you will want to stop and cook his meats.
Other dogs can eat raw beef bones with no problem and cannot actually handle raw meat each day.
Then there are dogs that can consume large daily amounts of raw meat and thrive. You can choose between the two
diets or do them both to see what works best for your dog.
