What dogs eat is a difficult question to answer. Dogs eat so many types of foods in the wild. None of them have corn in them. Nor are they over cooked and processed. Our dogs many be domesticated, but they still have the same genetic make-up and chemical properties to be able to eat and digest the same foods. Meat is a huge part of homemade dog food. Dogs are carnivores and need tons of protein for healthy muscles, bones, teeth, and hair. To aid in digestion of the raw meat they would consume, roughage is also a staple. This type of food includes vegetables and a variety of fruits and grains. The more you know about what dogs eat, and what they should avoid, the more you will never want to feed your best friend processed food again. What Not To GiveThere are some foods dogs eat that are not good for them. Making your own dog food is great, only if you know what to avoid as well as what to give. There are several common foods that people love to give their beloved dogs that are just horrible and even deadly to them. Chocolate and any other caffeine containing food should be avoided at all costs. These can have a negative effect on the dog's nervous system. While grapes and raisins seem harmless they can actually destroy the kidneys. Keep them away from your dog. Dogs love meat and many people love to give them organ meat such as liver. Liver can cause Vitamin A toxicity that can affect your dog's bones and muscles. Make sure to stay away from large amounts of any type of organ meat. Some nuts, such as Macadamia nuts, contain toxins and mushrooms can cause death. Be sure to stick with dog friendly foods when preparing your dog's meals. Raw Or Cooked When it comes to what dogs eat you are probably wondering if it should be raw or cooked. The answer is either. Some people believe that real dog food must be raw as it would in the wild. This is not always the case. While dogs eat raw foods with no issues, you will need to take precautions if you are making all your dog food this way. Uncooked meats can go bad fast so you will need to use a preservative and enzyme treatment to keep the raw meat fresh longer and not make your dog sick. Also, you would want to make less per batch and freeze most of it for preservation. You can read more Natural Dog Food related articles Here
